If you construct your website on your personal computer, you will need to publish it to a web server before it can be made visible on the world wide web.  Some HTML generators and website construction applications have built-in functionality to copy the website content to a server computer, however many do not.

FTP is a file transfer protocol that is used to transfer files from one computer to another.  There are many different FTP packages available.  Most provide a user interface that lists the files on both computers and allows the user to transfer individual files or entire websites between the personal computer and the server computer.

In addition to publishing to the website to the server, it is necessary to "point" the domain name that you have purchased to that physical address.  This is done by assigning primary and secondary DNS names and DNS IP addresses to the domain name.
