HTML or Hypertext Markup Language is the language used to format web pages. It is comprised of a set of meta tags that describe objects on a page.

HTML is used to define the page layout and the positioning of graphics.  It also allows hyperlinks to be added on words and images.

The ability to hyperlink was instrumental in the growth of Internet usage, as it allowed Internet uses to easily navigate from page to page and from site to site without having to remember an obscure internet addresses (IP Address).
